Why people look for a PDFescape alternative

PDFescape's plan table, read October 27, 2026, lists a 10 MB limit per file on the free plan, 10 stored files and a 7-day file history. The paid plans list 40 MB and 100 stored files. A longer lease or a scanned packet can pass 10 MB.

Its plan table also lists an ad-free interface as a paid feature, and says the paid plans are for people who want fewer limits and no ads.

Its home page lists editing existing text and images, merging, converting to Word and compressing as Premium features. Its menu links to Merge PDF, Compress PDF and PDF to Word pages that we did not open, so check what the free plan allows for the job you have.

The editor works by uploading your file (its home page says to upload your PDF files online) and offers saving your work on its servers. We could not read its privacy page, so we do not say how long it keeps files. If you would rather not upload a form with personal details, a tool that runs in your browser avoids the question.

When PDFinish fits

  • You mostly fill in forms, sign your own PDFs, add text and shapes, or merge, compress and protect a file.
  • You work with files between 10 MB and 50 MB and want to stay free.
  • You want the file to stay on your device, with no account to start.
  • You want no ads. PDFinish shows no third-party ads and sets no ad cookies. PDFescape's plan comparison, read October 27, 2026, lists an ad-free interface as a feature of its paid plans.
  • You want a plain price: Pro is $2.99 a month at the intro price, $24 a year, or $50 once for the first 500 founders.

When it does not

  • You need to edit images, or whole paragraphs of text, in place. PDFescape lists editing existing text and images on its Premium plan and in its Windows desktop editor. PDFinish changes existing text a line or a paragraph at a time and cannot edit images.
  • You want a desktop editor. PDFescape Desktop is for Windows 7, 8 and 10; PDFinish is browser only.
  • You want your work saved online in an account. PDFescape stores files on its servers (10 on the free plan). PDFinish does not keep a library of your files for you.
  • You need a certificate-based digital signature or seal. PDFescape lists digital signing and sealing on its higher plan. PDFinish places an image of your signature on the page, which is not a certificate-based signature.
  • You need a Word file that matches your PDF's layout closely. PDFescape lists converting PDF to Word on Premium. PDFinish rebuilds the page as editable text and leaves out boxes, lines and colors.
