Common questions
Can you unlock a PDF if I forgot the password?
No. We only use the password you type. We do not guess, crack or bypass protection, and we do not offer a workaround. Contact whoever created the file.
Is it okay to unlock any PDF with this?
Use it only on files you own or have permission to unlock, with the password you were given. Removing protection from a file you have no rights to may break the law or an agreement.
What if the PDF opens fine but will not let me print or copy?
Some files open with no password but have restrictions. If you have the right to change them, the tool can remove those restrictions after you confirm that. Your original file is unchanged.
Does the unlocked copy replace my original?
No. You download a new copy. The original, still protected, stays where it was.
Will the password be stored anywhere?
No. It is used in your browser to open the file, then it is gone when you close or leave the page.
Is my file uploaded when I use Unlock PDF?
No. The file and password are used in your browser. The file is not sent to our servers.
Is Unlock PDF free, and are there limits?
You can use it free. Without an account you get 2 tasks a day, and a free account (just an email address) raises that to 10. Free files can be up to 50 MB. Pro removes the daily limit and allows files up to 500 MB. We check the limits before a task starts, so a finished file is never held back.
