PDFinish on Windows, Mac and phones: browser support

PDFinish works in your browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android, with nothing to install. A current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari is all it needs, so it does not matter whether your PC is 32-bit or 64-bit.

Nothing to install

PDFinish is a web page, not a program. Open pdfinish.com in your browser, add a file and download the result. There is no app, plug-in or extension, so 32-bit or 64-bit makes no difference. Any current browser will do.

If you open it in a browser that is too old to run it, you see a short notice asking you to switch to a current one.

Browsers and systems, and what we test

We say only what our test runs cover. The runs are set up in .github/workflows/tests.yml and run on GitHub's own machines.

Browsers and systems, and what we test
BrowserSystemTested?What that means
Google ChromeWindowsYes, every night something changedAutomated tests run in real Chrome on a GitHub Windows machine each night after we have published a change. On Tuesday and Friday nights Edge and Firefox are tested instead.
Microsoft EdgeWindowsYes, on Tuesday and Friday nightsThe same automated tests run in real Microsoft Edge on a GitHub Windows machine on Tuesday and Friday nights, when something changed, together with our unit tests on Windows. The latest run passed on October 28, 2026.
Mozilla FirefoxWindowsYes, on Tuesday and Friday nightsThe same automated tests run in real Firefox on a GitHub Windows machine on Tuesday and Friday nights, when something changed. The latest run passed on October 28, 2026; one test passed on its second try.
Safari (WebKit)MacYes, the engine, on SundaysThe same automated tests run in WebKit, the engine Safari is built on, on a GitHub Mac machine each Sunday, when something changed. The latest run passed on October 28, 2026. We test the engine, not the Safari app.
Chrome, FirefoxLinuxNot in a Linux browserOur unit tests run on Linux with every change, and Chrome uses the engine we test on Windows. We do not run browser tests on a Linux desktop.
Safari, ChromeiPhone, iPadAt phone sizes, not on real devicesOur phone-layout tests run on our own Mac in WebKit with iPhone 14 settings. We have not run them on a real iPhone or iPad.
Chrome, FirefoxAndroidAt phone sizes, not on real devicesOur phone-layout tests run on our own Mac in Chromium at 390 pixels wide with touch on. We have not run them on a real Android phone.
Internet ExplorerWindowsNot supportedMicrosoft ended support for the Internet Explorer 11 desktop app on certain versions of Windows on June 15, 2022. PDFinish shows a plain notice there and asks you to open it in a current browser.
  • GitHub's Windows machines run Windows Server, so we say "Windows" and do not claim a test on Windows 10 or Windows 11 in particular.
  • DuckDuckGo's browser: we have not tested it. PDFinish is an ordinary web page that needs a current browser engine, so we expect it to work, but we do not claim it.
  • Very large PDFs depend on your browser's memory. A 32-bit browser has less, so use a current 64-bit browser or a smaller file if a big file fails.
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, RTF and ODT to PDF upload your file to our server to convert it, then delete it when the conversion finishes. Every other tool runs in your browser. Fonts that are not on our server, such as Calibri and Arial, are swapped for look-alikes, so a Word file's letters can look slightly different.
