Common questions
Can I start numbering from a number other than 1?
Yes. Set the start number to any whole number from 0 to 99999. This helps when your file continues another document.
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes. Tick Skip the first page. The cover still counts, so page 2 shows the next number.
What formats are available?
Just the number, Page 1, or Page 1 of N, where N is the total pages. You can also set the text size.
Can I number only some of the pages?
Yes. Choose Only some pages and type which ones.
Will the numbers sit correctly on landscape or turned pages?
Yes. The tool reads how each page is turned and sized, so numbers land in the position you picked as the reader sees it.
Is my file uploaded when I use Add Page Numbers?
No. Numbers are stamped onto your pages in your browser. The file is not sent to our servers.
Is Add Page Numbers free, and are there limits?
You can use it free. Without an account you get 2 tasks a day, and a free account (just an email address) raises that to 10. Free files can be up to 50 MB. Pro removes the daily limit and allows files up to 500 MB. Pro also lets you run Add Page Numbers on several PDFs at once with the same settings and download one zip file. We check the limits before a task starts, so a finished file is never held back.
