Get your resume under the upload limit

Shrink your resume so it fits an application's size limit, put your cover letter in the same file, and fill in an application PDF. Compress, Merge and Fill run in your browser, so your name, phone number and address are not uploaded.

Free to try: 2 tasks a day with no account, 10 with a free account. Each tool step counts as one task. Shrinking a resume and merging a cover letter is two steps.

The job hunt, step by step

  • Shrink your resume

Keep the default setting, Balanced. It shrinks the photos in your PDF and leaves your words as real text, so the resume stays sharp. A resume with no photos is often small already, and Compress tells you if it cannot get smaller. The third setting, Strong, turns pages into pictures, so skip it for a resume.

    Tools: Compress PDF.

  • Resume and cover letter in one file

Put the cover letter first and the resume second, then merge them into one PDF. If the result is too big for the upload, compress it. Some employers ask for separate files, so check what they want.

Tools: Merge PDF, Organize PDF, Compress PDF.

  • Fill in an application

Open the application PDF and type into its fields. If it has no fields, Fill PDF says so, and Edit PDF lets you type anywhere on the page. Sign PDF adds a drawn or typed signature.

Tools: Fill PDF, Edit PDF, Sign PDF.

  • Turn a Word resume into a PDF

Word to PDF makes a PDF that looks the same on any device. It uploads the file to our server and deletes it when the conversion finishes, and the page tells you before you start. If you would rather not upload it, save a PDF from Word itself.

    Tools: Word to PDF.

  • Photos of a certificate or transcript

Turn photos of a certificate, license or transcript into one PDF, in the order you choose. On a phone, Take a photo opens your camera. HEIC photos from an iPhone are not supported yet, so save them as JPG first.

Tools: JPG to PDF, Merge PDF.

Four tools cover most of it

The tools above run in your browser, so your resume, phone number and address stay on your device. Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF are the exceptions: they upload the file to our server and delete it when the conversion finishes.

Questions, answered

Will my resume keep its text?

Yes, with Balanced and with Basic. Both leave your words as real text you can select and search. Strong turns pages into pictures, so the text can no longer be selected. Never use Strong on a resume.

Will an employer's system be able to read my resume?

We cannot promise how any employer's system reads a file, and we do not know what yours uses. What we can say is that Balanced and Basic keep your words as real text, while a page turned into a picture has no text at all.

Will my resume look blurry?

Balanced re-saves the photos inside the file at a smaller size and leaves text and lines as they are. A resume with no photos looks the same. A headshot can look slightly softer, so open the result and check it before you send it.

What happens to my phone number and address?

Compress, Merge, Fill and JPG to PDF run in your browser, so the file stays on your device and we never see it. Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF are the exceptions: they upload the file to our server and delete it when the conversion finishes. The page tells you before you start.

Do I need an account?

No. Without one you get 2 tasks a day. A free account, which needs only an email address, raises that to 10 a day.

How small does my resume need to be?

The employer's upload form usually states a limit, so check it. Many resumes are already small. Compress PDF tells you when it cannot make a file any smaller.
