One tidy, searchable PDF per client

Merge receipts and statements into one PDF per client, make scanned pages searchable, and lock the file with a password before you email it. The tools on this page run in your browser, so client files are not uploaded.

Free to try: 2 tasks a day with no account, 10 with a free account. Each tool step counts as one task. Merging, making searchable and locking one client's file is three steps.

General information only. This is not tax or accounting advice. Tax forms are yours to fill in with Fill PDF, and PDFinish does not choose a form for you or tell you what to enter. OCR reads English only and can misread, so check names, dates and amounts.

The client file, step by step

  • Merge receipts and statements

Add a client's receipts, statements and invoices, put them in order, and merge them into one PDF. Add page numbers so you and the client can point to the same page.

Tools: Merge PDF, Organize PDF, Add Page Numbers.

  • Make scans searchable

Run a scanned statement or a photo of a receipt through OCR PDF to add a hidden text layer, so you can search and copy the words. It reads English only. Straight, sharp scans work best. Handwriting and faded copies can be misread, so check the amounts and dates that matter. OCR runs on your own device, so a long scan takes a while: keep the tab open until it finishes.

Tools: OCR PDF, Rotate PDF, JPG to PDF.

  • Lock client files

Add a password before you email a client's file, and send the password another way, such as a phone call. Nobody, including us, can recover a lost password, so keep the unprotected original.

    Tools: Protect PDF.

  • Split a stack by client

Scanned a pile for several clients in one go? Split the PDF by page ranges, one file per client, then merge each client's pages with their other documents.

Tools: Split PDF, Extract PDF Pages, Merge PDF.

  • Fill in forms

Type into a form's fields yourself. PDFinish does not supply tax forms or tell you what to enter.

    Tools: Fill PDF, Sign PDF.

Four tools cover most of it

The tools above run in your browser, so client files are not uploaded. Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF are the exceptions: they upload the file to our server and delete it when the conversion finishes.

Annual plan

Pay by the year, or once for life

Start free: 2 tasks a day with no account, 10 with a free account, and files up to 50 MB. Each tool step counts as one task, so a busy week of client files will pass the free limit quickly.

For no limits, Pro is $24 a year ($2 a month) or $2.99 a month. It gives unlimited tasks, files up to 500 MB and batch mode (several PDFs at once) in Compress, Rotate, Page numbers, Watermark and Protect. Merge is not part of batch mode, so you merge one client at a time. $2.99 is an intro price. If we raise it later, you keep the price you signed up at for as long as you stay subscribed. Cancel in one click. We email you 7 days before a yearly renewal and 3 days before a monthly one, so a charge never surprises you.

Prefer to pay once? The Lifetime founder deal is $50, limited to 500 seats, and covers all current and future Pro features. Sending documents for signature will be a separate add-on and is not included.

Send an engagement letter for a client to sign: coming later

Today you can sign your own copy. We are building a way to send a document to a client and have them sign online. It will be a paid add-on, and it is not ready yet. Join the waitlist and we will email you once, when it opens.

We use your email only to tell you when Request Signatures is ready. See our privacy page.

Questions, answered

Is this tax or accounting advice?

No. PDFinish gives you tools. It does not choose a form for you or tell you what to enter. Check the rules that apply to you, or ask a professional, before you rely on a document.

Are my clients' files uploaded?

No. Merge, OCR, Protect, Split and Fill run in your browser, so the file stays on your device and we never see it. Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF are the exceptions: they upload the file to our server and delete it when the conversion finishes. The page tells you before you start.

Which languages does OCR read?

English only for now. Text in other languages or alphabets will not be read well. When more languages are added, a language choice will appear on the OCR PDF page.

How accurate is OCR on receipts and statements?

It depends on the scan. Straight, sharp, well-lit printed pages come out best. Faded receipts, small print, handwriting and photos taken at an angle can be misread, so check the amounts and dates that matter. The page image itself is never changed.

How strong is the password on a client file?

Protect PDF uses AES-256 encryption, and the password is set in your browser. Anyone opening the file needs it. Nobody, including us, can recover a lost password, so keep the unprotected original.

Can I fill in a tax form?

Yes, you fill it in yourself. Open the PDF in Fill PDF and type into its fields. PDFinish does not supply tax forms, choose one for you, or tell you what to enter.

Open a tool and finish the client file

Drop in your files and work right in the browser. Nothing to install. Your first 2 tasks each day need no account.
