PDFinish

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 23, 2026

The short version: most tools run in your browser, so your files stay on your device. Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF are the exception: they upload your file to our server, which deletes it as soon as the conversion finishes. We keep only the little we need to run accounts, plans and limits.

1. Your files

Files you open in a browser-based tool are processed on your device. They are never uploaded to PDFinish, and we cannot see them or what you type into them. This includes templates you fill in.

Word to PDF, Excel to PDF and PowerPoint to PDF are different. They send your file to our converter over an encrypted connection, because turning an Office file into a PDF needs more than a browser can do. The converter is a program (LibreOffice) running on our own server. It works on one file at a time in a temporary folder, with macros turned off and without fetching anything from web addresses inside the file, sends the PDF back, and deletes the temporary folder as soon as the conversion finishes, including when it fails. We never keep, read or use these files, and our servers do not record their names or contents. Each tool page says all this before you add a file.

If another tool ever needs to process a file on our servers, its page will say so before you add a file, and this policy will be updated.

2. What we collect

  • Email address: when you make an account, join a notify-me list, sign up for updates or get a template. We use it to sign you in, send what you asked for, and send billing and renewal emails.
  • Plan and payment records: your plan, renewal date and payment references. Card details go to our payment provider and are not stored by us.
  • Usage counts: how many tasks you finished today, so we can apply the daily limit. We do not record file names or contents.
  • Funnel events: simple counts such as visits, a tool being started or finished, and sign-ups. Each event holds only a tool name, a source, a page path, a plan and a referring site name.
  • Technical data: your IP address is used briefly to prevent abuse (for example, limiting sign-in emails) and is not kept with your account.

3. Cookies and similar storage

  • pdf_session: keeps you signed in. Needed for accounts. Expires after 30 days.
  • pdf_anon: a random first-party ID that lets us count tasks if you are not signed in. Needed for the daily limit.
  • Browser storage on your device: a backup task counter, and your signature or initials only if you choose Remember on this device. These stay in your browser and are never sent to us. Clear them any time.
  • Analytics: we use no third-party trackers or ad cookies. If we switch on Plausible, a privacy-friendly analytics service, it is loaded only then, sets no cookies and collects no personal data.

4. Why we use your data

To run the service you asked for, to apply plan limits, to take payment, to keep the service safe, and to understand in broad terms which tools people find useful. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

5. Who we share it with

Only service providers that help us run PDFinish, such as our payment provider, our email sender and our hosting provider (which runs our servers, including the converter, so Office files pass through it only while they are being converted), and only the data they need. We may also share data where the law requires it.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your account while it is open. If you delete your account, we delete your email, plan and usage records, and we cancel any subscription right away so you are not billed again. We keep payment records (date, plan and amount) as the financial record the law requires. Event counts that cannot be tied to you may be kept.

7. Your rights

You can export a copy of your data or delete your account yourself from your account page. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to correct your data, object to some uses, or complain to a data protection authority. Email us and we will help.

8. Children

PDFinish is not meant for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you on the site or by email before it takes effect.
