What you can do in this tool

  • Animated GIFs

An animated GIF is saved as one still page using its first frame. The other frames are not kept.

  • Crisp colours

The page is saved in the PDF as a PNG, so flat colours and sharp edges stay crisp.

  • Pick a page size

Fit each page to its picture, or use A4 or US Letter with a margin you choose.

  • Stays on your device

Your pictures are converted in your browser. The file is not sent to our servers.

  • Works on any device

Runs in your browser on Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android or a Chromebook. Nothing to install.

Good to know

  • A PDF page cannot move, so an animated GIF is saved as one still page using its first frame. The other frames are not kept.
  • Your browser reads the GIF and the page is saved in the PDF as a PNG, so flat colours and sharp edges stay crisp. See-through areas show the white page.

Common questions

What happens to an animated GIF?

A PDF page is still, so an animated GIF becomes one page showing its first frame. The rest of the animation is not kept. If you want a different frame, save that frame as a picture first and add that picture instead.

Which frame of the GIF is used?

The first frame, which is the picture your browser shows before the animation starts. For a still GIF there is only one frame, so the page looks exactly like the picture. The page shows this under the tool before you add a file.

Does a GIF with a see-through background work?

Yes. Transparent areas are kept in the PDF, and they show the white page behind them. If you need a coloured background, add it in a picture editor first and then add the result here.

Is any quality lost?

GIF pictures hold at most 256 colours, and every one of them is kept. Your browser decodes the picture and it is saved in the PDF as a PNG, which does not lose detail. Photos saved as GIF look the same in the PDF as they did before.

Can I put several GIFs in one PDF?

Yes. Add as many pictures as you like and put them in order. Each one becomes its own page. You can mix GIF files with JPG, PNG, WebP and other pictures in the same PDF.

Is my file uploaded when I use GIF to PDF?

No. Your pictures are read and placed into the PDF in your browser. The file is not sent to our servers.

Is GIF to PDF free, and are there limits?

You can use it free. You get 2 free uses in total, no account needed. Free files can be up to 50 MB. Pro has no limit on uses and allows files up to 500 MB. We check the limits before a use starts, so a finished file is never held back.

Can I use GIF to PDF on a Windows PC?

Yes. Open this page in Chrome or Edge on your PC, add your file and download the result. Nothing to install, and your file stays on your device.

How do I convert GIF to PDF?

Add your pictures to GIF to PDF, drag them into the order you want, choose a page size and download one PDF. Each picture becomes a page, and an animated GIF uses its first frame. The files are read in your browser and are not sent to our servers.

Can I convert an animated GIF to PDF?

Yes, but you get one still page. A PDF cannot play an animation, so the first frame of the GIF is used and the other frames are left out. To keep a different moment, save that frame as a picture and add it to Image to PDF.

Can I get every frame of a GIF as its own PDF page?

Not on this page. It uses the first frame only. If you need every frame, save each frame as its own picture in an editor or a frame-splitting app, then add all the pictures here in order. Each picture becomes one page, so the frames end up as a page each.

Why is my GIF to PDF page not moving?

A PDF holds still pages, so it cannot play a GIF animation. What you see is the first frame. If you need the movement, share the GIF itself or a short video. Use the PDF when you need a page to print, sign, email or keep with other papers.

Does converting GIF to PDF reduce quality?

No detail is lost. Your browser decodes the GIF and we save it in the PDF as a PNG, which keeps every pixel and every colour. A GIF has at most 256 colours to begin with, so it will not look any better than the original. Your GIF file is not changed.

Is it safe to convert GIF to PDF online?

With GIF to PDF, your pictures are read and placed into the PDF inside your browser and are not sent to our servers. That makes it a good fit for diagrams, receipts and other private papers. You can check this in your browser's network tab.

Can I convert GIF to PDF for free?

Yes. You get 2 free uses in total with no account, and one conversion counts as one use. Free files can be up to 50 MB each. Pro has no limit on uses and allows files up to 500 MB. The limit is checked before the conversion starts.

Can I mix GIF and JPG pictures in one PDF?

Yes. Add GIF, JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP and TIFF pictures in any order, and each becomes one page. The page tells the type by the contents, not by the name. A mixed set is handy when you gather pictures from several places into one file.

Does GIF to PDF work on a phone?

Yes. Open GIF to PDF in your phone's browser, choose the pictures from your files or camera roll, and download the PDF. It all runs on the phone, so nothing is uploaded. A big GIF is read at up to about 16 megapixels.

How do I make a GIF to PDF file smaller?

Run the finished PDF through Compress PDF, which shrinks picture-heavy files the most. Fewer or smaller pictures also give a smaller PDF. Compressing makes a new copy, so your first PDF stays as it was, and your pictures never leave your device.
