These figures are estimates for planning. They are not financial, tax or investment advice. The IRS rate is an optional standard. An employer can reimburse a different rate. The formulas in words

  • Total miles = the miles box plus the miles from each trip in the list.
  • Rate per mile = the rate in cents divided by 100.
  • Mileage amount = total miles times the rate per mile.

What is the IRS standard mileage rate for 2026?

The IRS lists 76 cents a mile for business use from July 1 to December 31, 2026, and 72.5 cents a mile from January 1 to June 30, 2026. The IRS page was read on November 1, 2026. Rates change, so check the IRS page linked below before you rely on one.

Do I have to use the IRS rate to reimburse mileage?

No. The IRS rate is an optional standard that taxpayers can use to work out a deduction, and an employer can reimburse a higher or lower rate. Some places also set their own rules for expense reimbursement. Type any rate into the rate box, in cents per mile, to see the amount.

How do I add up miles from several trips?

Type each trip's miles on its own line in the trips box. The calculator adds them to anything in the miles box, then multiplies the total by the rate. Ten trips of 12.5 miles is 125 miles, and 125 miles at 76 cents is $95.00. Keep a log with the date and purpose of each trip.

Is this tax advice?

No. The calculator only multiplies miles by a rate. Whether you can deduct mileage, which rate applies to you and what records you need are questions for a tax professional or the IRS. The mileage log template on this site helps you note the date, purpose and miles of each trip as you go.
